The Madness: All God's Creatures Edition

"Exposure to the organic solvent tetrachloroethylene (PCE) in drinking water may raise the risk of certain psychiatric illnesses, particularly bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and schizophrenia, later in life." ~ Environmental Health

I told you there's something in the water.

Floppy ears.
It's Friday, when we turn our attention to the madness all about it.

What about llamas? As Americans increasingly treat their pets like furry children, employers are responding by extending family benefits to pets. “We offer maternity and paternity leave, and a pet is another member of the family. We don’t discriminate just because they aren’t human,” says Laurel Peppino, head of talent acquisition at mParticle.

But do they get time off? The TSA moving toward floppy-ear airport dog force because pointy-ear dogs "scare children."
You thought I was kidding.
That ain't no dog. A man in Texas has registered a longhorn steer as an emotional support animal.

Otter rights! An aquarium in California has been slammed by Twitter users for calling one of its otters 'an absolute unit'. Monterey Bay Aquarium posted a picture of one of its most famous otters, named Abby,  but quickly drew criticism after being accused of 'fat shaming' the animal.

Is your chicken happy? To size up what might make chickens happy, researchers at the University of Guelph in Ontario are putting 16 breeds through physical fitness and behavioral tests. They’re watching how well birds scramble over a barrier for food, how skittish they seem and whether they play with a fake worm. Chickens can’t say how they feel, but playing with a fake worm may be a sign of happiness.

Just bring the toys. HuffPost said the Christmas classic “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” was “seriously problematic” over claims that it features sexism and bullying. Among those observations was the suggestion that the TV classic was a story about racism and homophobia, while calling Santa Claus abusive and bigoted. “Yearly reminder that #Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer is a parable on racism & homophobia w/Santa as a bigoted exploitative prick,” read one comment.
