Notes & Comment: Barack goes home to Indonesia

"Hey there, peasants."
Here and there in the Webosphere:

The scandal hiding in plain sight: There is a deep irony in the fact that Democrats are hysterically demanding investigations of President Trump and his campaign team, and in fact multiple investigations are now in progress, even though there is zero evidence that anyone associated with the president has done anything wrong. On the other hand, we now know for certain that the Obama administration weaponized the intelligence agencies in order to use them against political opponents, in a manner that is unprecedented, highly dangerous to our democracy, and criminal.

We haven't had a full accounting of the Obama crimes.

He's just one of thousands of snake oil salesmen. Mark Jacobson is the trendy Stanford professor who has written a couple of big pieces claiming that having the United States get 100% of its energy from nothing but wind, water and solar power by 2050 is no problem at all. Actually, it takes about ten minutes with one of his papers to realize that his pronouncements are pure fantasy, made without any serious consideration of the engineering problems of making electricity work 24/7/365 with almost entirely intermittent sources. Yet it seemed like the whole world was giving him a pass. I guess so many people just want to believe so badly that all critical thinking gets suspended.

That's why for the enthralled it's a religion.

I'm sure your doctor is okay. Professor Mark J. Perry has posted some important data that show graphically (in both senses of the word) the extent to which racial preferences are used in medical-school admissions. “Bottom Line: Medical school acceptance rates in recent years suggest that medical schools must have ‘affirmative discrimination’ and ‘racial profiling’ admission policies that favor black and Hispanic applicants over equally qualified Asian and white students.”

Please risk your life for a just world.

He always was for the little people. The Democratic base is growing increasingly frustrated with Barack Obama’s endless tour of millionaire and billionaire luxury retreats. The level of luxury the Obamas enjoy on their vacations is unprecedented for a modern-day president, say travel experts. Obama has visited late actor Marlon Brando’s private island; the Four Seasons in Bali -- where rooms cost upward of $2,000 per night; a Palm Springs estate; Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island; the exclusive Mid Pacific Country Club in Oahu; the 13th-century Borgo Finocchieto in Tuscany; and the Rising Sun, Hollywood studio mogul David Geffen’s private yacht.

Don't remember Michelle traveling like a queen?

And you thought it was just CNN. MSNBC’s Joy Reid invoked Russia 56 times in the first hour of her program. Note that of a typical broadcast hour on cable news, about 22 minutes will be taken up with commercials, promos, and other material, leaving a 38 minute hole to fill with content. If my calculations are correct, that means one mention of Russia every 37.25 seconds of the broadcast.
